Topic – Texas Travel

It’s been a whirlwind year and it’s already June! Summer is here, school is out and people are heading out for vacation so what better topic for us to explore than Texas Travels!

State of Texas

Texas (known as The Lone Star State) is the largest state in the contiguous United States with an area of 267,338 square miles and over 25.1 million people.

The state capital is Austin (right in the center) and it’s known as the Live Music capital of the world. Nearby Austin is the city of San Antonio where you can find the Alamo and Sea World. Other large cities include Houston (East) and Dallas (North) and El Paso (West).

Texas joined the United States as the 28th state in 1845. Texas is the only state to have the flags of 6 different nations fly over it: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States, and the United States.

The state flower is the Bluebonnet (which you’ll see in profusion early Spring).

Interesting sport fact: the Heisman trophy is named for John William Heisman the first full-time coach and athletic director at Rice University in Houston.
